Visit at the center for children with cancer in Lima

At my visit in Peru in december last year one of the Projects we in Be the change decided to help, was a center for kids With cancer in Lima.
Ursula and I had bought and also been given gifts of clothes we were donating. On the way to the center we stopped at the market in Surcillo. We bought vegetables, potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, tomatoes and lettuce in large quantities. I got the bill, about 90 NOK. Then we went to get washing powder, toothpaste, oil, rice, toilet paper, lentils and honey. And finally fruit, tangerines, bananas, papaya, pineapple, grapes, strawberries and other fruits that I do not even know what is called. A man who worked there had a carriage with wheels and helped us out in the taxi with the goods. On the way out we bought two fresh chickens as well. All we had bought costed us less than 400 NOK. I was glad we had gone to the market and not to the supermarket, it had clearly become much more expensive.

We took a taxi to the center and on the outside it looked like a normal house. We rang the doorbell and a lady came out and opened, we entered a large room where there was a tv and dvd player and some chairs and toys, and on the side there was a small office. We proceeded through the house and got into a huge kitchen where there were some women preparing lunch. We went back out into the large room that we had first entered, and the ladies called the children. About 20 to 25 children came running and we began to hand out clothes. The boys at 12,13 and 14 which we had bought t-shirts and shorts were shy but happy, the expression on their faces said more than 1000 words. They were so proud and happy to have new nice clothes. It stirs something in you seeing these young people fight their battle for life. They were so nice and beautiful, but it was also very visible in many of these young people that they were going through a battle for their life. One boy had large tumors of the skin around the nose and upper lip, some had lost their hair, and others had wounds and skin rashes. Ursula put on a sow when we handed out the clothes and there was much laughter and fun. We had a nice time with the children and the people who worked there, and when it was time for
lunch we said goodbye and went off.
